Why this matters now
Malaysia's SMEs are digitalising faster than support can keep up. The government's Geran Digital PMKS Madani grant matches half the cost of eligible digital tools, up to RM5,000 per business, and Malaysia's digital economy reached 23.4 per cent of GDP in 2024. Mandatory e-invoicing is phasing in for mid-sized businesses, pushing many of them onto a proper ERP for the first time.
What e-invoicing actually requires
Getting e-invoicing ready is not a setting a business switches on. An ERP has to talk to LHDN's MyInvois system, banking, and customer records, all in real time. That is integration work, a different skill from the ERP implementation itself. Plenty of Malaysian businesses are discovering the gap between the two right now, having just put an ERP in.
